The Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce held their Citizen of the Year for 2014 award banquet and
with almost 50 members in attendance, they came together to celebrate the devotion of their volunteers.
Master of Ceremonies Barbara Leff started the evening with a toast in memory of Skip Hoitnik and Dave Barkhurst, two very dedicated volunteers and community members who are, and always will be, deeply missed.
The first “Friend of Depoe Bay” award went to Chief Joshua Williams and his dedicated staff and volunteers. Chief Williams is a true leader and that is evident in the quality of his firefighters and their dedication to the community.
Betty Taunton was presented with a “Friend of Depoe Bay”award for her lifetime of dedication to Depoe Bay and her strong belief in volunteerism.
Ron and Mary Gilliam were the couple of the year. They both volunteer and work from start to finish at the Crab Feed and the Salmon Bake.
Woman of the Year went to Beatrice Ray for her tireless devotion to the Chamber, its events and genuine love for the community.
Man of the Year was Jim Hayes. He is the first to receive this honor twice. Jim is dedicated to the Chamber and the Community. He is always there and willing to do what needs to be done.
Business of the Year went to Tidal Raves. Over the years they have been active in the Chamber and show a continuing commitment to the Depoe Bay community.
So, let’s congratulate and thank those who emulate what volunteering and community spirit is about.
