A less-than-thrilled Depoe Bay City Council Tuesday evening took the first step toward approving medical marijuana dispensaries inside its city limits.
After going back and forth on a number of restrictions that would have functionally banned the dispensaries everywhere within city limits, the council backed off and went with their original idea – not within 1,000 feet of Neighbors for Kids facility on School House Road.
The restriction will now be added to the city’s business license rule book. Final adoption is expected at the next city council meeting.
A long festering problem with an out-of-town property owner has likely been resolved. Patrick Mendenhall, a resident of Houston Texas, who owns a house on Sunset Point overlook the ocean has been told to pull his piling and rope fence back onto his own property. They say Mendenhall put the fence far out from his property lines all around his corner lot home.
City officials say Mendenhall said that while he regrets the error he doesn’t want to move the fence. He even made an offer to the city to buy “the overage.” City officials said no – the public right of way is not for sale and that the survey markers showing where the street ends and his property begins are quite visible. So Mr. Mendenhall has his orders.
