Summary: Yesterday was an exercise in truth in advertising as conditions wholly aligned with the forecast. Following a sunny morning, increasing clouds began nipping away at the blue sky until it was completely overcast at dusk. The rain began on schedule around 9:00pm with amounts above a tenth but below a quarter of an inch. The rain fell on and off through much of the night, ending for the most part around 4:00am. At dawn, it was still mostly cloudy but breaking up and winds were light out of the east.

Forecast: We’re kicking off today with a slight chance of a lingering shower, and then looking for increasing WON SUN-CLOUDSsunshine with highs of 50-55F. It could be chilly tonight when the clear sky allows daytime heat to escape and the mercury settles to about 35F, feeling cooler as north winds blow 10-15 mph gusting to 20. Beginning tomorrow and for the rest of the week’s outlook, boring but pleasant. Mostly clear skies, a little northeast wind at times, some patchy fog, highs of 55-60F, lows around 40F.

Travel: In the Coast Range today, chance of showers, partly sunny, with 50F. Valley destinations are expecting a chance of showers early, gradual clearing and a high of 55F. The Columbia River Gorge forecast calls for possible showers, partly sunny skies, light winds, temps around 55F. For the Cascades, there are spots of ice at Willamette and Santiam Passes this morning, bare pavement at Government Camp, temperatures are 25-30F; a slight chance of snow showers early, becoming partly sunny, the snow level is at 2,500 feet. Carry chains or traction tires.

Marine: Winds are light easterly nearshore this morning but still blowing NNE 10-15 knots gusting 20 well offshore WON SCAand seas remain lumpy, 7 feet at 8 seconds. As of 8:00am, Depoe Bay bar is closed to recreational vessels 18 feet and less. Yaquina Bay bar is unrestricted. A Small Craft Advisory for winds is in effect through this afternoon for the outer waters. Nearshore, NE winds 10-15 knots today; offshore winds N 15-20 knots gusting 25; seas in all areas 7-9 feet at 8 seconds. Tonight, the breeze eases to N 10-15 knots with seas subsiding to 5 feet at 8 seconds. Lighter E wind is on tap tomorrow, 10-15 knots, and swells drop to 4 feet. Outlook is for NE winds Wednesday with a long period swell, 3 feet at 14 seconds. N wind 10 knots Thursday, SW wind 10 knots Friday, and swells around 4 feet.
