IT expert and mayor of Adair Village Bill Currier soundly defeated a GOP leadership re-election slate led by former State Representative Wally Hicks of Grants Pass over the weekend. Hicks was apparently so miffed at the ascension of Currier to the top slot in the state GOP that he didn’t even stick around to formally pass the gavel to him.
Such has been the frequent divisiveness of the Oregon GOP, along with a marked inability to raise campaign cash for conservative candidates for state office or even keep the state party organization on the same page.
Currier told the party over the weekend at their annual gathering in Clackamas that the Oregon Republican Party has a big opportunity to make great inroads with the voters because of the scandal surrounding the resignation of former Governor John Kitzhaber amidst allegations of influence peddling by his fiance and former First Lady Cylvia Hayes.
