Newport Fire units back on scene Sunday morning putting out small flare-ups still lurking in the debris. No word yet on a cause. Still under investigation according to Newport Fire Department
12:00 Midnight – Report of a multi-building fire at NE 1st and Benton. House appears to be unoccupied according to reports from the scene.
12:02AM – Fire is reported to be spreading to adjacent buildings.
12:04AM – Arriving Newport firefighters say the house is fully engulfed in flame and spreading.
12:04AM – Central Lincoln PUD contacted to respond and shut down power in the area.
12:05AM – Newport fire command is calling for backup from Toledo Fire and Depoe Bay fire.
12:06AM – Fire is spreading to building next door.
12:06AM – Male pedestrian seen leaving the immediate area of the fire appeared very drunk. Not known if he was involved.
12:09AM – Avery Street is completely blocked with fire equipment and firefighters.
12:14AM – Multiple buildings now burning.
12:15AM – No occupants in any involved buildings. Will be defensive fire protocol. It means they can’t be saved. They’ll concentrate on boxing the fire in to limit its spread to any other buildings.
12:23AM – Toledo Firefighters arrive.
12:23AM – Firefighters are dumping water on Carquest building trying to keep it cool.
12:25AM – Depoe Bay firefighters arrive – Join in the fire fight.
12:29AM – Westbound lane of Highway 20 blocked with fire trucks and related equipment.
12:42AM – Army of firefighters douse water on what’s burning while cooling surrounding structures to prevent them from igniting.
1:05AM – Fire is knocked down. Firefighters in mop up mode.
