It’s exciting to learn that wind is being considered in Lincoln County. I hope that in the future Oregon’s Green Radar will pick up other types of renewable energy such as solar. Oregon currently gets less than 1% of its energy from solar even though the state needs to receive 25% of its power from renewable sources by 2025, according to the Oregon renewable portfolios standards (RPSs).
There are currently four bills making their way through the Oregon state legislature that aim to facilitate solar energy development in Oregon. One of these bills would allow small communities to produce their electricity locally through community solar gardens. New innovative projects like this are exactly what we need to reduce our dependence on coal and act as an example to the rest of the country. I suspect that if it can be done, Oregon is the best place to start and I hope our state leaders make solar a priority!
