Governor’s staff launches criminal probe on who illegally leaked Kitzhaber e-mails
In a case of not only WHO dunnit but also WHEN dunnit has prompted a criminal investigation by the state Department of Justice, trying to track down who in the state IT Department illegally leaked emails that that were supposed to be protected private conversations by now former Governor John Kitzhaber. It’s not that such conversations would not have been discovered by DOJ in the course of their investigation – because they have full access to them – but rather who in the IT Department leaked them to the Willamette Weekly newspaper.
It appears that Kitzhaber had left instructions that his private, non-governmental conversations, would not be placed on the state computer email servers. But somehow they were placed there in error, making them vulnerable to viewing and being passed along to anyone. The point is that whoever leaked the emails did so with criminal intent and the state is determined to find out who did it. Two department workers are reported to be on temporary leave.
