7:42PM – Toledo Fire is enroute to a report of a flue fire at 1722 NW Highway 20 off Lincoln Way.
7:47PM – Two story home. Firefighters on scene.
7:51PM – Firefighters say no flames coming from the chimney. Residents have invited them in to check out what’s going on with their flue. It’s obviously dirty and a fire threat to the home.
7:55PM – Fire is out. Residents being counseled about inspecting chimney. They should be cleaned at least every other year, if not more often. It’s not the number of fires you have, it’s whether they burn cleanly and completely. Always used cured wood. Never green wood. Should burn with very little smoke. Otherwise the soot accumulates inside chimneys and flues and begins eating away at grout and pipe joints. Once a fire escapes into an attic and it vents to the outside, it’s all over but the evacuating.
