3:15PM – Report of three pit bulls running loose in the Southwest Range and Chad Street area. Very aggressive, attacking other dogs and at least one human who managed to chase them off. The dogs have collars and tags.
Law enforcement is enroute.
3:27PM- One man had to jump into his pick up to escape the dogs. Deputies are not waiting for Animal Control Officer. They’re going into the area themselves to deal with them.
…some time later…
The dogs are finally back home. NewsLincolnCounty.com was informed that neighbors saw the story on the website and immediately started rounding up kids in the area and brought them inside.
The mother of the person who owns the dogs called News Lincoln County to say the dogs are good dogs and that they wouldn’t hurt anyone.
It’s critical that regardless of the breed, providing adequate food, water and SECURE fencing is absolutely necessary if you’re going to be a responsible pet owner. This kind of neighborhood drama happens all the across the country every day. Sometimes dogs get out, and behave badly and are “dispatched” by law enforcement. People come FIRST.
People are terrified, animals are put down, hearts are broken. And it’s all needless – if pet owners would just be responsible for their animals.
I have a Border Collie. He is always on a leash except in dog parks and in designated off leash areas – and sometimes when we’re hiking in the wild. He has a very secure living area inside and out. It goes with right and proper pet ownership. If you truly love your sweet little companions, then protect them and ensure they don’t get caught up in the wrong environment. Without a doubt, their lives depend on it.
