The spell has been broken. First Lady Cylvia Hayes, with the seeming acquiescence of her fiance Governor John Kitzhaber, has brought down Kitzhaber’s administration and caused the turn-over of the state’s governmental reins to Secretary of State Kate Brown, his statutory successor. After next Wednesday, Brown will be the state’s second woman governor since Oregon became a state on Valentines day in 1859.
