Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has thrown a speed bump under what has been often referred to as the “rush to approve” the Jordan Cove Liquid Natural Gas export facility in Coos Bay. Noted marine geologists and LNG safety experts have strongly urged that the project not move forward due to earthquake/tsunami hazards and the general dangerous nature of such facilities, especially when they’re located so close to population centers.
Senator Wyden says critical questions surrounding the proposal’s operational protocols have not been disclosed to the public. “Corporate proprietary information,” aka “secrets,” is the stated reason. Wyden says that’s not a good enough response.
