Governor John Kitzhaber is getting hit hard over the role his fiancee may have played in his last term in office. The Oregonian, after a fight to acquire government emails between Cylvia Hayes and various companies she was hired by, the Oregonian reports that the emails clearly show that Hayes was directing state staff on policies being pushed by companies that were paying her for consulting services.
And what’s worse, the Oregonian is claiming that it appears that Governor Kitzhaber knew about the alleged cozy relationships and yet did nothing about them. In fact he may have looked the other way when others might have blown a very loud whistle.
Even further, there are demands for a recall to remove him from office, although Friday, the state Attorney General ruled that out, saying state law provides that no one elected to office can be subjected to a recall vote until they’ve served six months into a new term. And for this particular term as governor, Kitzhaber’s six month mark would be around June 12th or 13th.
