Alert: HIGH WIND WARNING

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PORTLAND HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 AM PST SUNDAY.

* WINDS: SOUTHWEST WINDS 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH.

* TIMING: AROUND 6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE TONIGHT.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: FLORENCE…NEWPORT…LINCOLN CITY…MANZANITA

* IMPACTS: SOME DAMAGE CAN BE EXPECTED FROM THE HIGH WINDS…ESPECIALLY TO TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES. POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE. DRIVERS OF LIGHTLY LOADED TRUCKS AND OTHERS IN HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SUCH AS MOTOR HOMES AND THOSE TOWING TRAILERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR DIFFICULT DRIVING CONDITIONS

And again, the perennial warning about staying off the beaches. The high winds can make waves catching up with the ones in front of them, or colliding with them as they ricochet off headlands and beaches can create deadly, deadly, deadly SNEAKER WAVES.

The ocean fury is a wondrous sight to see, to be sure. But watch from a safe distance. Stay off rocks and headlands and give the surf lots of room. Watch from above the surfline – then add 100 feet. And even then your not completely safe.
