CITY OF NEWPORT ANNOUNCES VACANCY BUDGET COMMITTEE

The City of Newport has a vacancy on its Budget Committee and is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving.

The Budget Committee is comprised of seven citizens at-large and the sitting City Council – a total of 14 members. The Budget Committee meets approximately three times annually and reviews the proposed budget presented by the city’s budget officer, and ultimately approves a recommendation of a budget for City Council review and adoption.

Anyone interested in serving on the Budget Committee should apply using the city’s committee application which is found on the city website at www.newportoregon.gov; click on “City;” then on “Committees;” and then on “Application for Committee/Commission.”

CITY OF NEWPORT ANNOUNCES VACANCY ON AIRPORT COMMITTEE

The City of Newport is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the Airport Committee. The Airport Committee meets monthly on the second Tuesday, at 2:00 P.M., at City Hall. It is charged with recommending rules and regulations for the Newport Municipal Airport; recommending policies governing the use of airport property; reviewing and reporting to the Council on matters referred to it by the Council; making studies or reports relating to the Newport Municipal Airport; and promoting the Newport Municipal Airport.

There is currently one vacancy and applicants may be non-residents of the city.

CITY OF NEWPORT ANNOUNCES VACANCIES ON THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

The City of Newport has two vacancies on its Parks and Recreation Committee, and is seeking applications from individuals interested in filling these positions.

Applicants do not need to be city residents.

The Committee is comprised of eleven members and five subcommittees. The subcommittees are responsible for different components of parks and recreation including: parks; Tree City USA; recreation programs; recreation center; and swimming pool. Seven Committee members must be residents of the city, and one member of each subcommittee can be a non-resident.

In addition to developing recommendations regarding parks, recreation center, recreation programming, and swimming pool, the Committee will also serve as the city’s tree board. It will be charged with making recommendations that may include the acquisition, development, use, operation, and disposition of parks, facilities, rules, regulations, and programming. As a part of the Committee’s tree board responsibilities, it will periodically update a written plan for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal, and disposition of trees in parks, along public streets, and in other public places.
