Yachats residents are hereby reminded that the future of local banking debuts this evening (Tuesday) at 7pm at the Yachats Commons Multi-purpose room.
A citizens task force that would not take “gone” for an answer immediately went out and found a replacement for Bank of the West which will be closing later this month. The task force came up with what could easily be a good match for the community with an institution aimed more at developing and serving the community rather than a larger corporation’s single-minded maximization of their own bottom line.
At 7pm the community will be introduced to David Elmer, President and CEO of First Community Credit Union and his staff from Coquille, near Coos Bay. Mr. Elmer is expected to share his thoughts with the community as to why First Community Credit Union is interested in stepping in where Bank of the West left off and actually upgrading banking services with their institution’s trademark commitment to service and community development. It’s what credit union’s do.
Mr. Elmer recommends that Yachats residents visit their credit union website to become more familiar with their services and the spirit with which they’re offered. The website is http://MyFirstCCU.org or simply click here.
