Lincoln City Pools closed following electrical failure
From Gail Kimberling – Community Center Director
The swimming pools, spa and showers at the Lincoln City Community Center are closed for an indefinite period of time following a major failure of the electrical feed to the building over the weekend.
The electrical issue affected the Center’s pool pumps, hot water pump and controller, and some heating and ventilation controls, among other items. It will be at least the end of the week before hot water can be restored to the showers, and it could be up to several weeks before the main pool pump can be replaced.
“We lost one phase of our three-phase electrical system early Saturday morning,” Gail Kimberling, Community Center Director, explained. “Pacific Power crews were on scene most of Saturday working to resolve the issue, and full power to the building was restored mid-afternoon.”
However, the loss of one electrical phase resulted in damage to several major building components, including the main pool pump and spa pump. City staff and an electrician spent most of Monday assessing the damage and making plans for repairs. The costs are being assessed, as well.
The electrical issue did not affect the fitness areas, gymnasium, meeting rooms or Senior Center, and all of these facilities remain open.
Aquatic passholders are welcome to use the cardio and weight rooms during the pool closure.
A dry-land class will take the place of the 8:30 a.m. Senior Water Aerobics and 11 a.m. Water Aerobic classes. All other swimming classes and age group swim team practices have been canceled.
“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience, and appreciate everyone’s understanding,” Kimberling said. “It’s obviously not the way we wanted to start the New Year.”
