Why does the salmon cross the road?
It won’t be long before we don’t have to ask that question anymore since the county road crews will be funneling the creek that crosses the road – that the fish mistake for a river – through a very large culvert on East Devils Lake Road a ways east of Tanger Mall.
The box culvert installation will be at the second bridge crossing on the road when you come down the grade from the edge of Town. Culvert installation is expected sometime in late summer according to county officials.
The culvert installation is not considered a permanent fix for the problem but should dramatically reduce flooding in the area – although big storms may bring water right back up to or near the surface of the road. A permanent fix is enormously expensive, according to county officials, and therefore may be a ways off into the future. But for now, they say, this ought to work much better than the bridge that’s there.
