Friday morning update:
From Oregon State Police
On January 1, at about 8:53PM, Oregon State Police troopers responded to a report of a deceased person on the beach about 1 mile north of Roads End State Park.
Early information indicates that 58-year-old JAN THUM, of Damascus, was walking on the beach collecting agates. THUM was found deceased by a person walking on the beach and called in to the Lincoln City Police Department. While the investigation is not complete, troopers believe his death was not suspicious.
9:03PM Report just in to law enforcement – that there has been a report of a body of a male on the beach a mile north of Roads End Park. Reporting party lives in the 79-hundred block of Logan Road. She’s waiting for authorities at her house so she can lead them to the body.
9:10PM Fire Rescue going onto the beach at 64th Street access.
9:11PM OSP is enroute to the scene.
9:13PM They’ve located the body.
9:15PM Confirmed deceased. Male body is below the high tide mark.
9:15PM The site is being cordoned off for OSP investigators. Beach areas are under the jurisdiction of Oregon State Police.
9:19PM High tide is at 10:40PM. They’re going to have to work fast. Again the body is below the high tide mark, according to reports from the scene.
