Former Newport resident Loretta Macpherson accidentally put to death at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend
Former Newport resident Loretta Macpherson was accidentally put to death at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend this week while doctors thought they were helping her cope with recent brain surgery. Doctors say they thought they were giving her an anti-seizure medication. But it was actually a paralyzing drug normally used during surgeries. Macpherson suffered brain damage and then her heart stopped.

Loretta Macpherson and her husband lawyer Gordon Macpherson lived in Newport for many years – he developing Longview Hills, she a volunteer about town, especially for the Newport Chamber of Commerce.
Upon the death of her husband, Loretta moved to Central Oregon to be closer to family, to the charming town of Sisters, about 25 miles northwest of Bend.
Loretta’s celebration of life and final goodbyes will be in Newport – no date yet announced. Bates Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
