Two family dogs perished in a fast moving house fire at Durette and North Bank Road Friday night. This is all that was left of the home. Firefighters could not mount an aggressive fire attack because where there’s escaping propane it’s no place to be if your a firefighter. So all that North Lincoln Fire Fighters could do was to stand back and pour a lot of water on it – which they did for more than an hour.
One fire fighter was slightly injured in the early stages. He was taken to North Lincoln Hospital for treatment and then was sent home.
Unfortunately two family dogs died in the blaze – one of them running downstairs to seek refuge in the basement. The lone occupant at the time was an elderly woman who made it out okay.
A young couple was living in another part of the house. All have been assisted by the Red Cross in finding temporary quarters until they figure out what they’re going to do in the long term.
The official cause of the fire has not been released. However, a few witnesses said they heard it was a burning candle.
