Yes, fire departments rescue more than stranded cats up a tree. It seems a puppy got into the street on Egbert and was hit by a car. Siletz Valley Fire and Rescue was called and the retrieved the pooch. Fire-Rescue called a veterinarian as well as the County Animal Shelter. The shelter sent an animal control officer out, picked up the dog and took it to the vet’s office where after much agonizing – the puppy was hurt REALLY BAD – the owner had the pooch put to sleep.
Animal Shelter Director Laura Ireland says for those who need assistance with veterinary emergencies, they should contact the Central Coast Humane Society. The humane society administers their own fund and can receive donations at P.O. Box 71, Newport, OR 97365 or at 541-265-3719. At FOLCAS, their fund to help owned pets can receive donations at P.O. Box 2264, Newport, OR 97365 or by calling 541-961-5852.
