Free Memory Screenings at Newport 60+ Activity Center
Concerned about memory problems? Early detection is important. Take action and get answers at a free, confidential memory screening sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America on National Screening Day 2014. A Memory screening is a simple and safe evaluation tool that checks memory and other thinking skills. It can indicate whether an additional checkup by a qualified healthcare professional is needed. The free memory screenings will be held locally at the Newport 60+ Activity Center on Tuesday, November 18th, from 10 AM-2PM.
Memory screenings are a significant first step toward finding out if a person may have a memory problem. Memory problems can be caused by Alzheimer’s disease or other medical conditions. Some memory problems can be readily treated, such as those caused by vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems. Other memory problems might result from causes that are not currently reversible, such as Alzheimer’s disease. In general, the earlier the diagnosis, the easier it is to treat one of these conditions.
Qualified healthcare professionals administer the screenings, which consist of a series of questions and tasks designed to test memory, language skills, thinking ability and other intellectual functions, and take five to ten minutes. The person who gives you the screening will review the results with you.
Appointments are scheduled in 15 minute intervals, so please call the center to sign-up at 541-265-9617.
