Pacific Northwest Coast Guard brass to attend next Town Hall Meeting on Coast Guard Helo base closure
In what appears to be an abrupt about-face, Oregon Coast Coast Guard brass and their District Commander will all be attending the upcoming Town Hall Meeting at Oregon Coast Community College next Monday night at 5:30pm.
Without any reference to the lateness of the announcement, it came through the office of U.S. Congressman Kurt Schrader, seen here below:
Over 14,000 petition signatures have been amassed so far, opposed to the closing of the Newport Coast Guard Air Rescue base at the airport. Thus far nothing to report from Senator Ron Wyden’s office other than Oregon’s Congressional Delegation is working hard to get the Coast Guard to reverse what some Central Coast residents call an implied possible blanket death sentence for all who ply the waters of Oregon’s Central Coast. The Coast Guard’s central argument is money, but residents don’t buy it saying that there is enough money somewhere to allow the Coast Guard to continue to fulfill their sworn vow to protect America’s coasts and the lives of those who navigate its waters for a living as well as for recreation.
