From League of Women Voters
Dear Voters of Lincoln County,
On November 4, 2014, you will be voting on a very important matter concerning all citizens of this county: the renewal of the five year local option tax for the Lincoln County Library District, Local Measure 21-156.
For new residents of Lincoln County, here is a bit of history on this tax: in 1998, a 12 cent tax was proposed, and it went down to defeat. The following year, in 1999, a reduced tax of 9 cents was proposed, and the measure passed. It again passed in 2004, 2009, and now, in 2014, it is up for renewal again, at the same monetary rate, 9 cents per thousand of your assessed tax rate.
We are fortunate here in Lincoln County that all five libraries (Driftwood, Newport, Siletz, Toledo and Waldport) have excellent service, extensive hours of operation, and availability of any library in the county. In addition, books and other materials may be ordered from libraries throughout Oregon and Washington and are brought to your library through a courier service. On line cataloguing services are also available. Access to book drops within/without library hours are available at the library sites as well as other sites around the county for the ease of returning a book on time.
Most libraries within the LCLD offer book groups, summer reading and pre-school reading programs, and special speakers from time to time. We also would like to mention and thank those 208 volunteers who supported paid staff, and last year gave over 16,000 hours of their time to the libraries in this county!!
The League of Women Voters of Lincoln County urges a “YES Vote” on Local Measure 21-156.
