You can tell it’s an election year when when out of state politicians comes in and blame an Oregon office holder for terrible mistakes in running the country.
GOP conservative John McCain of Arizona did just that this week as he stumped for Republican hopeful Monica Wehby whose campaign has been losing ground to incumbent Senator Jeff Merkley in a long-running slugfest in the polls and on the campaign trail.
Appearing at a Wehby rally, McCain blamed Merkley for the rise of islamic radical group ISIS as part of President Obama’s strategy to extricate the U.S. from what is characterized as “endless war” in the middle east. Obama said it was time that freedom loving Arab nations take the responsibility themselves to secure their countries without asking American taxpayers to sacrifice their money and their children to what has been centuries of conflict in the region between warring sects.
McCain insisted that the U.S. military remain in the region to defeat the radicals. Obama counters that Arab nations must assume that responsibility. With all that oil, they certainly have the money. However, Obama has ordered strategic air strikes to blunt the momentum of ISIS military operations.
At any rate, the war of words raged this week between the Wehby campaign and Merkley, Wehby saying that the military knows more than she does and so she’d support whatever the U.S. military brass wants to do.
