The Small Business Development Center at Oregon Coast Community College is celebrating the arrival of Fall with a brand-new lineup of classes for small business owners and managers throughout Lincoln County.
“It’s been a busy summer at OCCC, and we’ve got new computers, new computer labs and updated operating systems,” said Dave Price, SBDC director. “But, even more important, we’ve got fresh new content in many of our technology and business classes this term.”
This term, instead of offering some classes in Newport and some in Lincoln City, the SBDC is improving the selection of courses at both campuses by offering almost every class in both campuses, typically on the same day. “We’ll be offering many of these classes from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Lincoln City,” Price said, “then the same class will be offered from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at our Newport campus.” The new schedule is the result of feedback from students in recent years, Price said.
First up this term is a series of three social media marketing classes. “Social Media Marketing in Less than 15 Minutes a Day” will be held Oct. 2 in both campuses. The class will walk participants through the various tools available today – some of them absolutely free – that allow businesses to handle a variety of social media outlets with ease.
Next on the calendar is Beginning Facebook Marketing, coming October 9. Following that will be Facebook Marketing for Advanced Users, scheduled for October 23.
The classes range in price from $30 to $39 each, but the SBDC is offering a special discount now through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. Until that time, anyone paying for the first two classes will receive free tuition (a $39 savings) to the Advanced Facebook Marketing class.

Build Your Own Website
Also on the horizon is the SBDC’s popular “Build Your Own Website” class. “Students in this class pay just $180,” said instructor Misty Lambrecht, “and they leave four sessions later with a beautiful, fully-functional, search-engine-optimized, e-commerce-ready website. Best of all, they leave with the skills they need to manage and update the site themselves, well into the future.”
The next session starts Oct. 22, and will be held at the Lincoln City OCCC Campus. The class is held Wednesdays, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a one-hour break for dinner at 5 p.m.
