Twenty-three local veterans of five wars have received special honor at Lakeview Senior Living. The event was sponsored by Lakeview and the Oregon Coast Veterans Association (OCVA).
The assisted living facility was crowded with veterans, their families and guests who happily, and tearfully, swapped stories of wartime glory, fear and loss. The 23 veterans were presented with ribbon-held medals by members of OCVA.
Lakeview Senior Living, served a buffet lunch to the guests and residents. Janet Shinner The community relations director remarked “We wanted this to be something special to honor all veterans who gallantry served and gave so much for our country.”
Jim Reed, OCVA president, led a group of six members who participated in the event. He said that OCVA is an independent Lincoln County veterans association that does much community service for those who have served in US armed services. Members include former members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
The veterans who received medals are: John Graham, Robert Hedberg, Albert “Lee” Lewis, Dale Harlan, Norman Bertrand, Charles Fischer, Dossie Bill Works, Betty Anne Ladd, Ralph Tally, Frank Seigner, Chuck Heater, Frank Heater, Dale Gabriel, Robert Lane, John Thompson, Sam Sakamoto; Wayne Houston, Bill Baird, Tom Stephenson, Stephen McDonald, George McCraw, James Lehman and Ed McGee.
