From Goodwill Industries
In two weeks the shelves will be fully stocked with overflowing merchandise. Thousands of colorful fashions on the silver racks will be thumbed through by treasure hunters. Beginning at 7:00 A.M. on October 2nd, hundreds of customers are expected to fill the stores nearly 9,000 square feet of retail space when Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette (GICW) opens its first Lincoln City store built from the ground up.
During the four day event, shoppers are encouraged to enter to win one of four $100.00 Goodwill shopping sprees. One new 40” flat screen TV will be awarded and for the first group of customers to arrive, Goodwill is giving away free coffee and 200 kites.
The 22,000 square foot facility, located at 1000 SE Highway 101, nearly twice the size of the current location @ 4157 NW Hwy. 101. Shoppers will enjoy a retail floor many 100’s of square feet larger and donors will be able to drive through a covered drop off location. In addition, our Job Connection office is expanded. Since we began offering free job services through Job Connection in 2005, Goodwill has helped place 1,500 Lincoln County area residents in jobs.
In the store about seventy-two percent of our 40 employees have barrier to employment. This year alone, just-under one-million dollars in wages, benefits and taxes will be paid to those who work in the Lincoln City Goodwill store. “Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette is eager to expand its involvement in the north coast,” says Goodwill C.E.O. Michael Miller.
In the summer of 2001, Goodwill opened the original Lincoln City location. Store revenues pay wages and benefits for people with various barriers to employment and fund Goodwill’s network of job training and placement services. Last year this Goodwill system served more than 62,000 people in NW OR, Central OR and SW WA with an overhead of just 4.6% of annual revenues.
