Many people driving to work this morning northbound on Highway 101 just north of Ona Beach got a full dose of emergency vehicles to drive by – some drivers even taking picture of the scene. Lots of cop cars.
As it turned out, the incident was triggered by a citizen calling in saying that a home on the beach there had somebody in it that should not be there. When an officer called the guy out, he refused to come outside. Thinking it might be a barricaded situation, the officer called for back-up.
They talked back and forth for quite a while. Finally the man came out and it turned out he had a good enough reason to be there so officers said okay and departed. The man was NOT taken into custody.
The coast is a perfect storm for such situations…empty vacation homes and the coast having a temperate climate which attracts a high number of transients and homeless people looking for any kind of shelter they can get their hands on. And that’s the kind of things officers are always on the look-out for.
