The City of Newport has experienced a water main break near SW Second Street. The break has caused water in some areas to be brownish and contain some sediment. The city advises that the water IS safe to drink.
Public Works Department staff are working to repair the break. Public Works Director Tim Gross told News Lincoln County that the repair should be wrapped up within 2 to 3 hours. He said the brownish tint to the water that comes out of the tap should be allowed to run until the discoloration fades. Gross added, “Today’s not the day to wash whites.”
