We Want Your Bread!
September is National Hunger Action Month. Previously called Hunger Awareness Month, the name of the campaign was changed to encourage people to take action to help end hunger in America.
Food Share of Lincoln County will be holding a bread drive, in support of this campaign, on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to collect donations from the community. The location is the Food Share of Lincoln County Warehouse at 535 NE 1st Street in Newport.
While we receive generous donations from our local retailers, our food pantries are short of sliced bread to provide to our clients. A loaf of wholesome sliced bread can make many sandwiches to feed children and family members, thus stretching the food supply.
Please consider buying an extra loaf or two of wholesome sliced bread and bring it by between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on the 20th. Since bread can be frozen, we are hoping we will receive enough donated bread to sustain our pantries and partner agencies for a couple of months.
You can sample an Italian bread salad (Panzanella) made with summer vegetables such as cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. And if you are interested, you can also tour our facility to see how we distribute food to our pantries and partner agencies throughout the county.
If you cannot attend our drive on September 20th, please consider making a monetary donation. You can mail a check to us at 535 NE 1st Street, Newport, OR 97365, or you can go to our website to donate via credit card. http://www.foodsharelincolncounty.org/volunteering/we-want-your-bread/
