From Toledo Police
On Sunday afternoon, just before 3pm, several concerned citizens called 911 to report two young children walking along Highway 20 near the Toledo Dairy Queen.
Toledo Police Sgt Michael Pace located the children on Highway 20 near Christiansen Road and transported the children to the Toledo Police Department.
The children identified themselves as 9 year old cousins and were able to provide Sgt. Pace with their names, addresses and parents contact information. The children told Sgt. Pace they were camping with family, went for a walk and became lost. The plan was to walk to their family home in Newport. Both children had no injuries and were healthy.
Family members were contacted and immediately responded to the Toledo Police Department to retrieve their children. The family told the Toledo Police Department they had been actively looking for their children prior to the Toledo Police Department contacting them.
While members of the Toledo Police Department were impressed with the children’s knowledge – to include a family member’s license plate – the children were counseled on the safety concerns of walking along a busy highway and were reminded to go to a business and ask for help.
The Toledo Police Department would like to thank all the concerned citizens who called 911. With your help the children were returned to their parents quickly reducing the parents anguish and minimizing any potential threat to the children’s wellbeing.
