Bike Newport has announced details for the 8th annual Cancer Awareness Ride. This year’s event will support local patients through the Pacific Communities Health District (PCHD) Foundation’s CAN Cancer fund.
Sponsored by Newport Gentle Dentistry and Schones Chiropractic, the event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at 10 a.m. The casual group ride begins and ends at Bike Newport located at 150 NW 6th Street, on the corner of 6th and Highway 101. Participants will be led by local sheriffs as they make their way to the historic Bay Front and then east toward Toledo along the Bay Road. Riders may choose either a 10 or 25-mile loop. All riders will have the opportunity to refresh at a rest stop located at Sawyers Landing.
After the ride, participants and their families are encouraged to stay for lunch, compliments of JC Thriftway, Bigfoot Beverages and Savory Café. Along with refreshments, several volunteers from Samaritan Pacific Health Services will be present, answering questions, sharing information, and offering free heel bone scans. Nursing students from Oregon Coast Community College will provide free blood pressure screenings and nutrition information. PCHD Foundation staff will be available to answer
questions and provide additional details about the funds.
The CAN in CAN Cancer stands for Communities Assisting Neighbors. In partnership with the PCHD Foundation, the Lincoln County Haulers Association is working to help give its neighbors assistance with the fight against cancer. Local patients can receive help with non-medical expenses related to their care and treatment, such as fuel, travel, utilities and food costs. The association includes Thompson’s Sanitary, North Lincoln Sanitary, and Dahl Disposal.
The cost is $25 per person for this casual group ride. For more information, or to register for the ride, call Bike Newport at 541-265-9917.
