It’s amazing what a long slab of new concrete will attract. No better proof that the governmental notables that helped celebrate Tuesday’s Grand Reopening of the newly replaced Boat Launch Ramp at A. W. Jack Morgan Park, off Highway 229, six miles north of Siletz.
Jack Morgan Park and Campground covers eleven acres along both sides of the State Hwy 229. On the west side of the Hwy there is newly replaced boat ramp that offers convenient boat launching into the Siletz River. Facilities on that side of the highway includes concrete vault restrooms and a picnic area with tables. Fishing for Chinook and Steelhead on this section of the Siletz River is extremely popular. The west side of the park is day use only with no fee.
A note to river mariners: Jet pump boats are NOT allowed on the Siletz River upstream from Jack Morgan Park.
Access to the campground is on the east side of the Highway. Camping areas are private and woodsy along Hough Creek. Each of the 13 campsites are complete with a picnic table, fireplace/barbeque pit and fresh drinking water is available nearby. The camping area is sheltered by a canopy of tall spruce trees.
A volunteer camp host is on site March through November.
