“Windswept,” oil painted by Ivan Kelly, has been voted into the 16th National American Society of Marine Artists. From almost 500 entries, just 99 works of painting, sculpture, printmaking and scrimshaw were selected as part of the exhibit.
The American Society of Marine Artists was founded in 1978 by a group of the country’s leading maritime artists seeking to enhance public awareness of the artistic genre. They set about exploring and recording the history of American marine art, and encouraging the work of those new to the specialty. Membership has always been nationwide – today number well over 500 members spanning 40 states.
Based on the East Coast, its art museum national tours exhibitions are held every three years. Ivan was inducted as a “Signature Member” in 2000 by the East Coast Panel Board. Closer to home, “Windswept” is now part of the permanent collection of Oregon Coast Bank.
Ivan Kelly Studio-Gallery is located one block above Main Street at 207 East Graham Street, Toledo.
