“Master Class” is a new arts initiative being launched by the Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre and Center for the Arts in Toledo. The project will begin with a free family workshop during “Art Walk” on Saturday August 30th from 11-4p.m. by staff artist and master artist Neciah Morrison who works in Jewelry making, Assemblage Arts, and Fabric Arts. Visiting youth and parents will have the opportunity to take part in 2 projects. The 1st will be making assemblage flowers or Cards, out of old beads and jewelry, glass, fabric and paints and other items.
We invite children and families to come to the youth art center during their “Art Walk” Experience in Toledo. The Olalla Center for Children and Families/ & Flowerree Community Center is the location of the youth art center on 3rd st in Toledo just follow the signs for “Art Walk” as there is 3 other artists who also have their studios located in the Olalla Business Center next to the main parking lot at the building. Maps of Art Walk sites are available at any location.
While there you can also view the work and take part in laying down some ceramic and glass pieces as part of “Watch us Grow,” the new community art mural at the Olalla Center for Children & Families & the Flowerree Community Center. You will be instructed by Laurie Leedy, Art Center Manager and Dina Britton Kirk, Education Director, refreshments will be served for quests to the center.

No training is needed and is a good time to dabble in the art of mosaic and learn the basic process free of charge. OCCT/OCCCA is also signing up students interested in additional workshops, in October there will be Master Class-Monster Makeup Workshop- open to 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th Graders. As well as a performance workshop in puppetry open to children 6 to 18 this winter for a workshop and performance of “Dragontales” an original OCCT production designed to introduce students to the puppetry arts and theatrical special effects including stage combat, dance, and boonraku puppetry styles which is a Japanese aspect of the art form.
Dates for workshops will be announced when we know the number of participants; students can either sign up on line by sending an e-mail, or by coming to the art center and filling out a registration card showing your interest in either performing art classes or fine art classes.
