Governor Kitzhaber didn’t like it, local residents opposed it, the local Native American Tribe didn’t want it because it would threaten their local Columbia River fishery – and so today the State Division of Lands turned thumbs down on it.
So as it stands, there will be no mega coal exporting facility on the Columbia River at Boardman. The Australian company that wants to build it is anything but pleased and is making noises like it’s going to head for the local or federal courts.
