Book Signing and Reception for “The Kid From Valsetz: Donald A. Davis, first City Manager of Newport, Oregon.”
The community is invited to attend a book signing reception honoring Donald A. Davis, first City Manager of Newport, Oregon, on Friday, September 5, from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. in City Council Chambers of Newport City Hall, 169 SW Coast Highway, in Newport.
This biography about Don Davis, “The Kid from Valsetz,” was written by Deborah H. Trusty and published by Dancing Moon Press. It is the culmination of five years of research and interviews that chronicle the early life of Donald A. Davis who grew up in the tiny mill town of Valsetz, Oregon, and who ended up serving as City Manager of Newport from 1962 to 1991. Those years in Newport were a time of extraordinary growth, and many refer to it as the city’s Golden Years. Most of the amenities that add so much to the quality of life found in Newport today – including the Performing Arts Center, Visual Arts Center, Newport Public Library, and the Oregon Coast Aquarium – originated during Davis’s administration.
A gifted leader and visionary, Davis’s management philosophy and follow-through placed the people of the community first in all decisions. He was also a pioneer who invested heavily in the continuous training and skill development of city employees. Longtime residents and people new to the community are encouraged to attend the reception to enjoy a bit of nostalgia and say thanks for the vibrant city we enjoy today.
Author, Deborah Trusty, will read short passages from the book, and she and Mr. Davis will be on hand to autograph copies of the book. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Peggy Hawker, City Recorder/Special Projects Director, at 541.574.0613 or email@example.com.
