Great Albacore Tuna BBQ Challenge Returns Saturday and Sunday To Newport
The third annual $3,000 Great Albacore Tuna BBQ Challenge is returning to the Port of Newport this Saturday and Sunday!
This very popular cook-off celebrating Oregon’s Albacore tuna industry and fishermen will feature 30 culinary teams from all over the Northwest
competing for $3,000 in prize money.
The event will take place at Port of Newport property 2000 SE Marine Science Drive next to NOAA MOC-P and across from the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Saturday’s competition will feature the professional and amateur divisions from 11:00am to 3:00pm with Culinary Students competing on Sunday from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Tickets include “all you can sample” from the recipes created by these talented chefs. The tuna loins used will come fresh from the boats on Newport’s working bayfront. Tuna Tom Pfister, local tuna fishing legend and original member of the Oregon Albacore Commission, will present two amazing bbq tuna demonstrations each day with free samples included. This special attraction will be at the MAK Grill Center Saturday at 1:00p.m. and Sunday at 12 noon. Tuna recipes from the Oregon Albacore Commission will also be available free of charge.
Rogue Brewery will have a special Ale Garden, free Pepsi both days, plus a special added attraction include two classic car shows featuring Newport’s Bay City Cruisers on Saturday and the Rollin’ Oldies from Lebanon on Sunday. These amazing vintage vehicle displays are included in the ticket price.
Tickets for Saturday are sold online or at the gate are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for kids. Sunday tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for students and kids and are sold at the gate (no online sales). For more information and tickets visit the website at www.tunabbq.com.
