The Coast Guard is racing to aid the fishing vessel Endeavour that is taking on water 9 miles northwest of the Yaquina Bay jaws. A 47′ motorlifeboat is expected to be on scene by 10am. The Endeavour’s captain reports that he’s still able to make 5 knots forward speed.

Latest conversation with the Endeavour is to arrange the best way to get a bail pump aboard the stricken craft based on current sea conditions.

The Endeavour is positioned at 44.40.21N and 124.16.31W.

9:58am Coast Guard motorlifeboat is nearly on scene. Coast Guard is approaching F/V Endeavour with rescue bail pump ready to transfer. The Endeavour is apparently low enough in the water that wave heights are a factor in lining up the Endeavor with the motorlifeboat.

10:03am Sounds like the pump has been transferred. Captain aboard the Endeavour already arranging repairs for his ship.

10:15am They continue to wrestle with getting suction.

10:18am The motorlifeboat crew is now passing over a second pump.

10:19am Transfer called off.

10:24am Endeavour Captain says it’s not a pump problem, the pump is not getting deep enough water to maintain suction so when the boat is tossed by the waves it doesn’t lose suction.

10:26am Endeavour Captain has put his ship in neutral – stopping his shaft so he can climb down and remove the smaller pump he tried to use after they started taking on water last night. Apparently they took a big wave that caused the initial problem. When the smaller pump is removed they’ll have a more reliable water level for the Coast Guard pump to maintain suction.

10:32am Endeavour Captain removed small pump. He says the leak appears to be a small one. Sounds like they’re going to be getting back into Newport pretty soon.

10:36am Coast Guard told its motorlifeboat crew that other Coast Guard craft will be ready for the Endeavour as it enters the bay to ensure that the Captain can unload his fish catch without having to worry about taking on more water at the dock. The Coast Guard will provide more pumps if necessary to get the job done.

12:10pm F/V Endeavour slowly creeps through the jaws and into Yaquina Bay. Endeavor makes a bee line for the fish docks to unload his catch. Coast Guard standing by to ensure things go smoothly. Next step for the Captain is to get someone to plug his leak.
