NORTH LINCOLN COUNTY KIDS: YOU CAN BE A STAAARGH! IN “BLACKBEARD THE PIRATE” AUG 4-9
LINCOLN CITY – A swashbuckling new play is headed to the Lincoln City Cultural Center. It’s “Blackbeard the Pirate,” and the directors are looking for young actors to fill up to 60 roles in this Missoula Children’s Theatre production. Auditions are set for 10 am Monday, Aug. 4, and participation is free – yes, free – for all kids attending school in north Lincoln County.
Auditions, which are open to kids entering first through 12th grades, will be held in the auditorium at the LCCC, 540 NE Hwy. 101. All those auditioning should arrive at 10 am sharp and plan to stay until noon. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
Among the 60+ roles to be cast are Blackbeard and his crew of bearded Pirates, Sailors of the High Seas, cranky Crabs and Crocodiles, magical Mermaids and Seaweed Creatures, Parrots and even a group of Beach Bums. No advance preparation or theatrical experience is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week, and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.
“This is our second Missoula Children’s Theatre production of the summer, which we added to better accommodate all our local kids, and their summer schedules. If your little thespians couldn’t audition for ‘Pinocchio’ in June, bring them out for Blackbeard” said LCCC executive director Niki Price. “But the timeline is very tight, so auditions begin at 10 am sharp and those who are late may not be allowed to participate. The center doors will be open by 9:30 am, so that parents and guardians have time to fill out the necessary forms.”
Thanks to local sponsors, participation is absolutely free for all children who attend school in Lincoln City or Neskowin. Other aspiring performers (children and teenagers who attend school outside of the north Lincoln County area) are welcome to participate for a $50 registration fee, which covers all rehearsals and performances. All those children who are cast must agree to attend rehearsals faithfully throughout the week, and to perform in two shows on Saturday.
The directors will also offer three optional 45-minute theatre education workshops, outside of required rehearsal time, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. They will address topics such as “Acting 1-2-3,” “Improv” and “Let’s Make-up.” Sign-up sheets will be available after the audition. Parents and guardians can sign up for the workshops right after auditions on Aug. 4.
After rehearsing for just one week, the cast will perform the musical “Blackbeard the Pirate” twice, at 3 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, Aug. 9, in the auditorium at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Tickets are $10 reserved (A Section), $5 general (B Section), and free for kids 12 and under with a paid adult. For tickets or further information, call the center at 541-994-9994.
