Early Monday morning Lincoln City Police Department Officer Steven Dodds arrested Daryl Hugulet, age 67, of Lincoln City for 1st Degree Aggravated Animal Abuse – firearm involved.
Sunday evening Lincoln City Police Dispatch received a call of shots fired in the 1800 block of NE 10th street in Lincoln City. The caller also reported hearing a dog yelping after the shots were heard. Officers responded to the area but were unable to locate the source of the shots or the animal.
At about 6:47 a.m. Monday morning LCPD received a call from Hugulets’ neighbor that there was a deceased black Labrador dog in his backyard. Officers responded to the caller’s residence and investigation led to Hugulet’s arrest. It is alleged that Hugulet’s dog got out of his house and Hugulet, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, shot the dog.
Hugulet was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Animal Abuse in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Recklessly Endangering. Hugulet’s bail was set at $115,000.
