Lots of gorgeous Harley Davidson motorcycles are gathering at Hee Hee Illahe Park in Siletz today – part of a “Road to Recovery” celebration with motorcyclists pouring in from around northwest Oregon to celebrate sobriety. No drugs or alcohol. The weekend outing and celebration is to continue to rededicate their lives to clean and sober living – no longer relying on chemicals to provide life’s reality.
The group numbered 60 motorcycles at around 5pm with more coming in to the park. The event is also a fundraiser for the Lincoln County Hope and Drug Courts. The riders want the judges that preside over those courts to broaden the use of recovery funds for treatment and rehabilitation to include social events where recovering people can come together enjoy the fun and personal growth that comes with associating with others who are no longer drug or alcohol dependent. A spokesman for the group said these social gatherings give encouragement and reenforcement for clean and sober living and elevates everyone’s love and enjoyment of life without artificial additives. They would like to see the courts acknowledge this important rehabilitation component and include it in how the funds are spent.
The next Road to Recovery event in Lincoln County is set for August 9th at the Big Creek Park picnic area. The Barbecue begins at Noon!
With the help of Lincoln City Police Department we made it through Lincoln City very nicely. The Turn out was outstanding we had over 50 motorcycles and at least that many people at the park in Siletz waiting for us to arrive. People came from all over the northwest to help with this worthy cause, Seaside, Beaverton, Salem, and Klamath Falls to mention a few. We were able to raise $1295.00 for Lincoln County Hope and Drug Court Events. The courts are given a federal grant that allows for these people to have their fees paid for, such as lawyer, supervision and court fees and after all of that there just isn’t very much left for the clients to have any events. Therefore, the Ride for Recovery gathers funds to allow these individuals who are trying to get their lives back on track, to have events that are clean/sober but most of all fun. We hope to show these people life is outstanding without any mood altering substances in their lives. We would like to mention that the community really stepped up with donations and they are as follows;
