Newport: Accident at JC Market – Car into store, grazes man, barely misses woman and baby

JC Market Newport – Car jumps shallow curb, bumps pedestrian, narrowly misses mom and child in stroller, far left in photo

Fireman knocks out the rest of the damaged glass caused by car hitting the shopping cart storage area.
A man who mistook his gas pedal for the brake, caused his silver Honda to jump the shallow curb outside the Newport JC Market this afternoon, went over the curb, crossed the sidewalk, clipped a male pedestrian’s leg, and narrowly missed hitting his wife and their little one in a baby stroller. The car then plowed into the market’s outside shopping cart enclosure.
Police and firefighters raced to the scene to find that the front of the shopping cart room, on the outside of JC Market, was badly damaged as it was a couple of years ago when a similar thing happened.
The man said the car just bumped his leg – nothing serious. But mom was shook up. The youngster seemed oblivious other than enjoying the ruckus. The victim denied any medical attention – said his leg felt okay, and then left with his family.
Meanwhile the officer investigating the incident hasn’t said whether a ticket is in order. Obviously JC Market will be making a phone call to their insurance broker who in turn will be in touch with the man’s auto insurance.
