It’s getting close to that time of year when aquatic dare-devils jump into homemade cardboard boats and paddle as fast as they can around a course on the river and try to make it back to the finish line before the thing gets soggy and sinks on ’em.
It’s the 4th annual Containerboard Boat Contest that is part of the annual Toledo Wooden Boat Show August 16th and 17th in Toledo. There are three classes: Youth, Large and Small. Groups are welcome to make and race as many boats as they want. The more boats the better the race. And, of course, the more fun.
There will be prizes for the top three race finishers in each category: Best Design and Most Spectacular Sinking. Each winner will receive a trophy and a special prize.
It’s all set for 9am sign ins at the Toledo Waterfront, site of the Toledo Wooden Boat Show. Boat inspection is at 11am. Peoples’ Choice Judging is between 9am and 1pm. And then the races start at 1pm.
All materials are free and can be arranged for pickup. Talk to Willie Worman by calling 541-336-8343 or WKWorman@GaPac.com by email. The boat kits are currently available.
