Machete vs AK-47 in Newport
One man with a machete, the other with an AK-47. It’s a wonder that no one suffered more than facial cuts and bruises.
Newport Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies responded 1523 NW Nye Sunday on a report of two men fighting. Upon arrival they spotted one of the combatants leaving the residence who they stopped for questioning.
As the story unfolded, police say Juan Bruno-Antonio 29, was drunk and had gotten into a verbal dispute with Juan Lopez-Sanchez, 28, a fellow resident. Police say Bruno-Antonio picked up a machete and slashed at Lopez-Sanchez who used an AK-47 to protect himself. After repeated blows to the semi-automatic rifle’s stock, Bruno-Antonio lost his grip on the machete and it fell to the floor. A third resident grabbed the machete and got it out of the house.
But it wasn’t over. Police say Bruno-Antonio began punching Lopez-Sanchez multiple times in the face and nose.
Police escorted Bruno-Antonio to a patrol car for the short trip to the county jail. Enroute Bruno-Antonio kicked out a window in the patrol car.
On his arrival Bruno-Antonio was booked for Assault, Attempted Assault, Menacing, Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Mischief. His bail was set at $137,500.
