Newport: Manhunt off Yaquina Heights Drive Sunday evening
9pm. Lincoln County deputies and Oregon State and Newport Police are searching heavy woods and brush for a man who led them on a high speed chase from Highway 20 around east Newport and eventually up Steensen Road off Yaquina Heights Drive.
Residents of the area are advised to lock their doors as well as any access to out buildings.
The fugitive is described as a white male with numerous tatoos wearing a dark shirt.
He abandoned his vehicle at the top of Steensen Road.
10pm Search for the fugitive called off because of darkness. Police know who the man is based on his criminal record.
