Newport: Shellfish encrusted boat hull spotted in ocean 10 miles west of Newport
3:45pm The Coast Guard has broadcast a warning to mariners that a partially submerged hull of a boat has been spotted just about straight out from Newport, about 10 miles offshore. The Coast Guard said mariners should be very alert when traversing the area.
5:30pm The Coast Guard says the boat hull is likely Japanese tsunami debris, caked with shells and mussels as others have been in the near past. They’re predicting this particular boat may wind up somewhere on the beach between Newport and Depoe Bay in the next day or so.
