From Seal Rock Water District Manager Adam Denlinger
The Seal Rock Water District (SRWD) has hit the bulls-eye on getting help rebuild long stretches of water distribution pipe and pump facilities throughout the district.
U.S. Department of Agriculture rural assistance of $6,000,045 includes a grant award of $2,549,045. Receiving this award of funding, he continued, is a great accomplishment for the district’s Board of Commissioners, District staff, Engineers and the community they serve. Obtaining this grant would not have been possible without collaboration of our Board of Commissioners, USDA-RD staff, and Engineers.
Denlinger said that in this challenging economy it is even more important to tap outside funds and partnerships to develop a more resilient system. Funding from grants allows SRWD to offer our customers even more value for their dollar. In the past ten years the District has been fortunate to receive over $4.5 million dollars in grant funding from USDA-RD to support system improvements.
Proposed improvements include replacing several thousand feet of aged water distribution pipe to eliminate undersized lines and provide necessary system looping, installation of 36 fire hydrants in areas with insufficient coverage, and installation of 2 pressure reducing valves (PRV) in a low elevation area with excessive distribution pressures.
The project also involves installing remote radio reading for water meters, all read from the district office. It makes for fast, accurate and reliable meter reading as well as catching any moderate to major water leaks at residences or businesses that may be closed for prolonged periods of time. No more coming back and facing a water bill that can hit hundreds or thousands of dollars due to an undetected water leak. Denlinger predicts the new remote meter reading technology will be up and running district-wide by the end of 2017.
Denlinger said the District would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank officials with USDA-RD for their consideration of the Districts application. The district would also like to thank the community for their patience as District staff completed necessary improvements that will continue to provide reliable safe drinking water to the Seal Rock community.
