Yachats Mayor Ron Brean said that he’s grateful that the voters of Yachats voted to authorize the city to purchase property in the downtown area for more parking, from a willing seller only, of course.
Brean said that the latest refinements of the town’s downtown corridor plan have produced a few more parking spaces by making minor adjustments here and there, but there’s still likely to be shortfalls for what is truly needed for downtown parking. He added that knowing the voters have put city hall on a $400,000 leash, Yachats will have what is needed to get the job done. “And we’ll likely do it for less than that amount,” he added.
Mayor Brean said further tweaking of the plan will continue, but in the meantime the city will proceed with moving major sewer and water lines that run under the highway. The project will be scheduled so it doesn’t cause headaches during the high tourist season.
